Hauser & Wirth Institute and the Estate of Eva Hesse release first-ever compilation of every known work on paper by Eva Hesse, published online using the Navigating.art platform.
(Potsdam, Germany — July 13) Navigating.art announces the publication of “Eva Hesse Drawings,” a new digital catalogue raisonné developed under the direction of scholar Dr. Renate Petzinger and Barry Rosen of the Eva Hesse Estate, who previously collaborated on the two-volume catalogue raisonné of Eva Hesse’s paintings and sculpture. Hauser & Wirth Institute provided the support to produce this first-ever compilation of Hesse’s entire body of works on paper as a free, online resource.
Hesse not only completed the pioneering work in new materials for which she is known. She also created over 1,100 drawings, collages, photograms, etchings, lithographs, pages from diaries and notebooks, and sketches for sculptures. This work comprises the catalogue raisonné and reveals the vital role that drawing as a tool for experimentation played throughout her life, as well as highlights her influence on revolutionary artistic developments that took place in New York in the 1960s.
Research for this project was conducted in cooperation with the Estate of Eva Hesse and Museum Wiesbaden, and it was produced as a freely available digital resource under the auspices of Hauser & Wirth Institute. This is the second catalogue raisonné produced by the Hauser & Wirth Institute on the Navigating.art platform.
